Flex your home design muscles when buying exercise equipment

Two of my favorite hobbies are watching TV and eating good food. Knowing these hobbies would eventually catch up with my health and my figure, I resolved recently to be more fit. Before getting started, not only did I need to consider my tendencies toward movie marathons and cheese (as well as chocolate, wine, dessert, etc.) tasting parties, but also my aversion to unsightly home exercise equipment.

No matter what manufacturers design in the future, these machines will probably still complement only a room specifically designed as a home gym.

Home gyms are becoming increasingly popular. My hope is that aesthetically pleasing equipment might be just around the corner. In the meantime, I did find a couple of unique options. As I shopped for different types of equipment, I quickly realized steppers seem to be my favorite in terms of looks. The Kettler Power Stepper ($680, www.workoutideas.com) is a light metallic blue with red handles and lettering. This might fit in with modern or contemporary decor. The sleek Full Rail Stepper from Montgomery Ward ($249.99, www.wards.com) is mostly brushed stainless steel with black accents. Keep in mind that I’m talking only about looks. When you shop for your own fitness equipment, exercise good sense by considering the equipment’s safety and your doctor’s advice.
